Without the benefit of a current benchmark we are unable to indicate whether our version is representative of the varietal characters of Savagnin. We can, however, confirm that the wine is a truly enjoyable drink showing lifted aromatics of peaches, lemon zest and a slight floral hint. These traits continue through the palate with characters of green apple, nashi pears and a crunchy dry finish with fresh zingy acidity. The accompaniment of fresh prawns or pan seared scallops will certainly provide greater enjoyment.
In Spanish terms this wine has been produced in the 'joven' or youthful style - meaning it exhibits only the vibrant fruit characters of Tempranillo without the encumbrances of sweet or toasty oak. Characters of plums, cherries and spice fill the nose, leading to a firm dry palate of blackberries and dark chocolate. Ultimately this wine, we believe, is a true representation of the Tempranillo grapes.
Paying homage to a classic Catalonian red blend this wine spans a spectrum of characters with the result being far greater than merely the sum of its parts. With cool climate influences at the core of all three components, the Tempranillo brings rich berry fruit characters and strong savoury tannins, while both Mataro and Garnacha provide the spice and elegance. Juicy natural acidity helps to lift and lengthen the palate while the absence of new oak use during the ageing process ensures the wine dispalys a sense of place rather than winemaker influence. This limited release wine is an exciting addition to the Los Hermanos range and will be the perfect accompaniment to rabbit or game dishes.
More a wine for enjoyment than analysis, our Saludo al Txakoli lives up to its namesake as the perfect salute to a classic Basque white. Its floral nose makes a seamless transition to fruit on the palate while the ever important, ‘spritzy’ acidity brings the mouth to life in preparation for the next tasty Pintxos morsel. The perfect summer drink that demands food – and yes, for maximum drinking pleasure be sure to pour from a height!
