The offer this month is a mixed dozen of Pinot Noirs from Crittenden Estate. We have three Pinot Noirs in our range, all made with fruit from the Mornington Peninsula...
The Geppetto 2009 Pinot Noir is made for early enjoyment with fresh fruit and supple tannins but the palate still retains a lively acidity. It normally retails at $24 a bottle.
The Crittenden Estate 2008 Pinot Noir walks the middle ground between being fruit driven and more complex and structured. There is a faint but appealing sappy character and the texture is rich and structured with soft tannins and a good acid finish. Normally $34 per bottle.
The Zumma 2007 Pinot Noir is our Reserve Pinot. Inspiration for this wine has been drawn from the great wines of Burgundy, many of which show a level of elegance and restraint that is seldom seen in new world Pinot Noir. Cherries, berry fruits and characters of fresh spice are abundant on the nose, while fine silky tannins, restrainted oak and taut acidity provide the palate with great length and balance. Normally $49.
Our offer includes four bottles of each of the above wines with a 20% discount across the board, delivered freight free. Normally $428, you pay $342.
Chardonnay is a variety which invites many complex activities. Each of the things we do such as barrel ferment, stirring on lees etc produces a richer and more complex wine. This wine has a restrained fragrance of figs and ripe melons combining beautifully with a delicious mouthfilling savouriness and acidity that comes from truly cool climate grapes.
This wine has a component of fruit allowed to partially “dry” on the vine. This brings a subtle “amorone” character to the wine which blends most harmoniously with the briary notes that our vines always seem to deliver.
This wine walks the middle ground between being fruit driven and more complex and structured. The contributing clones are 114 and 115, MV6, D2V5 and D5V12. Each brings unique character to the wine. There is a faint but appealing sappy character that has nothing to do with stems in the ferment, but more to do with the berry size at maturity ie small. The texture is rich and structured with soft tannins and a good acid finish.
Inspiration for this wine has been drawn from the great wines of Burgundy, many of which show a level of elegance and restraint that is seldom seen in new world Pinot Noir. Accordingly, The Zumma Pinot has an alcohol level at the lower end of the usual spectrum and the colour is perhaps lighter than may be expected, however, it does possess a depth of flavour and a finesse that belies its appearance. Cherries, berry fruits and characters of fresh spice are abundant on the nose, while fine silky tannins, restrained oak and taut acidity provide the palate with great length and balance. We feel that this wine possesses a quality that truly reflects our long term dedication both in the vineyard and the winery and will certainly reward those who are patient.
This wine shows all the classic "Grigio" characteristics both on the nose and in the mouth. Its vibrant yet savoury aromatics of honeysuckle and fresh cut hay are matched seamlessly on the palate by textural flavours of pears and lemon juice. Although this wine will undoubtedly drink well for 3 to 4 years we recommend it is enjoyed sooner rather than later.
