“Beautiful spot for wine tasting - and lovely wines. We had an excellent time with Ben who taught us a lot about their wines and made the experience fun. Great value getting the premium wine tasting selection.”

A switch to sustainable viticultural practices, top grafting with new clones and a change to cane pruning methods have been integral in the development of our winemaking over the last two decades. In 2012 the decision was made to introduce a super premium ranges of wines....The Cri de Coeur (Cry of the Heart) label is made in tiny quantities and perfectly showcases the pinnacle of our viticultural and winemaking efforts spanning over 40 years and two generations.
Tasting notes: Dried fruits with a lingering nutty, sherry like aroma attributed to the wine's extended ageing under flor. On the palate you'll find spices and sweet luscious golden fruits, all balanced with an acid spine.
Drink with: Sweet spiced pastries, fruit tarts, chocolate, milawa blue and washed rind cheeses.
Cellaring: Will cellar for many years to come, but ready to drink now!
No animal products were used in the making of this wine.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the nuanced style of Macvin along with very limited quantities, this product is not available online. Please contact us on 03 5987 3800 or winecentre@crittendenwines.com.au to purchase.

A fortified by any name which combines flor-aged Savagnin and grape juice which is then fortified and aged in barrel. Expect a degree of sweetness and alcohol richness, but also one complex, exciting, individual taste. Golden in colour with an enchanting aromatic profile in notes of honeyed fig, baked pear, dried fruits, orange zest and fruitcake. Palate sings in harmony, bright, unctuous and clean with a sweetness that is countered nicely by acidity. The length will astound! Enjoy as an aperitif or with dessert.

The fifth incarnation where a portion of flor-aged savagnin '19 is blended with the juice of fresh ’23 savagnin, then fortified. A light toffee-amber hue; smells of toffee too, and my mother yeast (for sourdough), dried figs and pear with baked quinces, salty and nutty too. There’s a neat interplay between the acidity, spirit/sweetness and the tug of phenolics. Equally important, this is super fresh.

The NV Macvin # 5 was matured under flor for four years (2019 Savagnin), after which time the wine was sweetened with the same volume of 2023 vintage Savagnin juice and fortified to 17% alcohol. The resulting wine is a golden amber in the glass and is aromatic as hell—I can perceive it from two feet away. On the nose, there are savory salted nuts, bitter almond, brine, caper brine, green olive tapenade, preserved lemon rind and fennel in profusion. In the mouth, it is floral, sweet and savory, with a kaleidoscopic view of Savagnin. It is fresh, long and complex, with all the bitter aldehydic notes balanced by sweet spring flowers. This is a great, great wine. 3.31 pH, 7.2 total acidity and 120 grams per liter of residual sugar. It went through 50% malolactic fermentation. Sealed under Diam.
